About AIM
What is AIM — Athletes In Motion?
AIM is an independent, high-performance coaching organisation based in NZ, supporting athletes for local, national, and international pathways through structured long-term development.
Coaching & Pathways
How are athletes selected?
Selection is readiness-based, informed by regional/national rankings, emerging athlete assessment, and commitment capacity (development stage, training history, goals).
How It Works
Can athletes train with AIM while representing their school or club?
Yes. Athletes remain registered with and compete for their school and Athletics NZ–affiliated club (or overseas equivalent). AIM supports elite training and preparation.
Is AIM an athletics club?
No. AIM is not a club. Athletes stay registered with their school/club; AIM provides coaching and performance systems alongside those structures.
Who is AIM for?
Athletes aged 12+ targeting NZSS, national pathways, scholarships/US college benchmarks, and selected international athletes via virtual coaching (where appropriate).
What are AIM’s performance pathways?
Typically: Performance Foundation (12–14), Performance Development (14–18), High Performance (18–20,+). Athletes move by readiness, not age alone.

How is athlete safety managed?
We operate with safeguarding processes (World Athletics Approved certification), police-vetted coaching support, age-appropriate communication standards, and clear pathways for raising concerns. Parents are key partners for athletes under 18.
What do fees cover?
Structured programmes, performance planning, monitoring and progression support, athlete/parent communication, and pathway guidance. HOWEVER, competition entries, uniforms, and travel are managed via school/club.
Does ACC cover injuries?
Yes, ACC covers personal sports injuries. AIM also maintains professional and public liability insurance for governance and risk management beyond ACC.
Do you coach athletes outside New Zealand?
Yes. Virtual coaching is available where appropriate, using structured programming, technology, and communication protocols, and safeguarding standards.
How do we apply?
Submit an Expression of Interest via the website. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis; if aligned, we’ll arrange a readiness conversation.
